About Zizmor

Zizmor is a private-pay mental health practice built around a simple idea: clinical excellence shouldn't require jumping through hoops. We provide private-pay mental health care, including medication management and talk therapy, via telehealth to patients across California.

Our Approach

We operate as a private-pay practice because it allows our clinicians to spend more time with each patient, make independent clinical decisions, and maintain the discretion that many of our patients value. No prior authorizations, no session limits, no insurance-driven compromises.

Most care is delivered via secure telemedicine, with select in-person evaluations available at our offices when clinically appropriate.

Our Medical Director

Michael J. Zizmor, MD is the founder and Medical Director of Zizmor Mental Health. Dr. Zizmor earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Medical Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, followed by additional training in psychiatry at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, DC. He is licensed to practice medicine in California (Physician's and Surgeon's License G50848, NPI 1124395421).

Practicing as a mental health physician since 1984, Dr. Zizmor brings more than four decades of clinical experience to the practice. He oversees clinical standards across Zizmor Mental Health, based in Berkeley, the city where his career began as an undergraduate, and hosts the Dr. Z on Mental Health podcast.

Our Network

Zizmor maintains offices in Berkeley and Los Angeles, each serving as a regional hub for our telehealth network across the Bay Area and Southern California. This means you get local support backed by a statewide clinical team.
